03-17-2026 Q&A: Creating Arrows, Stacked Text Welding, and Rotary Distortion Fixes

In this Q&A session, Kyle addressed various design and technical challenges in Vectric software, including vector creation for clock faces, troubleshooting "disappearing" vectors during welding, and techniques for correcting 3D model distortion in rotary projects. The session also provided updates on upcoming community events and the new features and compatibility notes for Vectric version 12.508.

• Arrow Design Methods: To create a closed vector arrow for VCarve or pocket toolpaths, overlap a rectangle and a triangle (polygon tool) and use the "Weld" tool .  For a quicker "open vector" arrow, use the draw line tool to create a shaft and two angled head lines, then join the head lines at their intersection.

•  Stacked Text Welding: The "Weld" tool keeps only the outermost shape .  When working with complex designs like musical notes on staff lines, it is often faster to weld one note to its intersecting lines at a time rather than welding the entire group at once.

•  Rotary Distortion Correction: Objects drawn in a 2D view for rotary projects will appear distorted when wrapped around a cylinder .  To make a shape like a circle or club icon look correct on a finished rotary piece, you must manually stretch the vector in the 2D "unwrapped" view to counteract the wrapping effect.

•  Interface Recovery: If sidebar tabs like "Layers" or "Sheets" become detached or "popped out," you can drag the tab by its name directly on top of another tab's name (like "Design") to snap it back into the standard layout.

•  Version Compatibility: Files saved in Vectric version 12.508 are not backward compatible with earlier versions (like 12.507) due to structural changes required for the new Advanced Machining Module.
