The Challenge

In September, our community rallied around the "Machine to Mealtime" theme, highlighting the intersection of technology and culinary arts. We asked participants to craft kitchen essentials using their CNC machines, adding a dash of precision and artistry to elevate mealtime experiences.

Magnetic Oak Knife Block by Jonas Ögren 

Jonas Ögren's entry in our "Machine to Mealtime" challenge was nothing short of remarkable. He crafted a magnetic oak knife block that seamlessly combines function and style.

Starting with split oak halves, Jonas pocketed holes for 18 neodymium magnets, precisely positioning nine on each side. The result? A secure and sleek magnetic knife block.

He didn't stop there. Jonas meticulously glued the halves, cut and sanded them to perfection (up to 800-grit paper), ensuring a smooth finish. To protect countertops, he added foot pieces with pockets for small felt pads.

Adding a personal touch, Jonas laser-engraved his logo onto the block. This project exemplifies craftsmanship and innovation in CNC crafting, showcasing the utility and elegance it can bring to any kitchen.

He collaborated with a realtor who had a special idea in mind - creating unique gifts for clients who were purchasing big-ticket homes. After seeing Lester's previous projects, she was convinced that he was the right person for the job.

The end result was truly special. Lester designed and crafted personalized cutting boards with a charcuterie board on the opposite side, making them both functional and elegant. The boards were made from cherry, measuring 24" in length, 18" in width, and 1.25" in thickness.

What added a personalized touch to these boards were the engraved logos, both the realtor's and Lester's, making these gifts truly one-of-a-kind. These creations were made for the family who owns Redner's Markets, offering a unique and memorable gift that goes beyond the ordinary.
