4-4-2024 Q&A: Pausing 3D Cuts, Vectric Version 12 Updates, Font Issues, Toolpath Lessons, Material Z-Zeroing

q&a meetup replays Apr 04, 2024

In our comprehensive Q&A Meetup, attendees delved into an array of CNC and software queries, making significant strides in their understanding and application of Vectric Pro and G sender. The discussion ranged from managing lengthy 3D cuts and anticipations for Vectric's version 12, to techniques for magnifying small project details on screen for improved clarity. Highlights included exploring the current version's underutilized features, interface improvements in the upcoming release, and practical steps for adding ramps to cat box enclosures. Participants also navigated the use of non-English fonts in Aspire, shared insights on project creation from design to G-code generation, and exchanged tips on executing circular pattern copies, addressing challenges in deep carves, and achieving meticulous zeroing methods. This session was a testament to the vibrant community's spirit of collaboration, offering valuable lessons for both novices and experienced users aiming to refine their CNC craftsmanship.

Questions Answered in this Q&A:

  • 00:02:51 - Uses Vectric Pro and G sender, and he says when you 3D, that takes a very long time to cut, like a 24 hour cut. Is there a way to stop the program and restart at the same spot at a later time and not have to start over?
  • 00:16:08 - Has Vectric given the date for version 12?
  • 00:16:55 - Trying to do a project that is very small and it's difficult to see the details on the screen. How do I blow up the workpiece and keep the same measurements?
  • 00:22:23 - Since version 12 is coming soon, what do you think is the most valuable features of our current version that is underutilized?
  • 00:25:40 - I find those little boxes in the current version at the top very hard to determine if you're actually on or off because it says it's light blue. How are they addressing that in the new version?
  • 00:27:24 - This is a project we made with her in a one on one lesson. She made a cat box enclosure, and she's saying, what's the best way to add a ramp to both sides of the entries so the chunky cats don't have to try and jump from the floor and get stuck?
  • 00:41:06 - I'm trying to use a Korean font I have installed in Windows, but Vectric types it as English. How do I use Aspire to use the actual TT font so it shows the actual language characters?
  • 00:49:25 - Do you have a lesson where you take a simple project from design, creation of toolpath, to final output to a G code generator?
  • 00:51:23 - Can you show how to copy a line from the center of a circle to the edge 12 times?
  • 00:53:54 - I was doing this carve and started with a quarter inch Ballnose bit. Once it was complete, I switched to a tapered ballnose, 10 degree, with a 0.015 tip. Both bits were zeroed on the material surface. Both toolpaths were set to model boundaries. Once the tapered ballnose bit started the finish path, it dug into the wood deeply, as can be seen in the picture below, and ended up ripping the wood from the hole downs. And it looks like the deep areas there in the front legs.
  • 00:56:34 - If you set up your material three quarters and you zero your X, Y, but then you zero your Z on the material bend, when you go to your machine, does it. What does it understand? Would you have to start them at a higher distance?
