Submission C
"A selection of gears, painted or gilded with brass, bronze, copper, iron, gold, and aluminum finished and then aged ( aggressive patina). Some of these gears look like they have been around since the 50's.
Â
Four hours for the roughing toolpath, and 24 hours for the finish toolpath. Since it was cedar, there was quite a bit of cleaned up before I could start painting.
Â
I discovered that you can assign a base height for an entire level. I made 47 different gears and made them with the same shape height and base height. Then I assigned each of five levels a different height., and the level added it's own base height to each item in the level. Each level had a different pitch diameter and pressure angle (based on the level I want to to put it on."

"I was scratching my head, trying to think of what I could do that would be retro, then I thought of my brother-in-law and sister. I call this Remember When. It replicates kind of now and when they were young.
It is cut from a 15" x 20" x 2" maple slab. I put a little of mixed media with a turquoise background with a little tie-dye thrown in with epoxy. I designed it with the old style round glasses from the 60s and put the two pictures in each lens."

"Living in an unincorporated part of a small town in South Texas, we have no sidewalks and when my neighbors and I go out walking in the mornings, we have to walk in the road. He posted speed limit on this road is only 20 miles per hour. However we get people that think that takes to much time, so they really speed. This challenge I decided to create a set of signs designed after some that were used before interstate system was created. Most of the signs were posted in the Midwest and West and Route 66 had many. As youngsters, we always enjoyed seeing what the message was in these signsâŚ..
This project was somewhat an inlay project, with the wood part of the signs being machined out. And then I use d 1/8â plastic from Amazon (bad stuff) that I cut the letter inlays out of."

Submission L
"Both my son and his wife work for the local power company so I decided to make them a Reddy Killowatt lineman cutting board. He was the mascot for all things electrical from 1926 until the 1980's. This will be painted and epoxied before I give it to them, but I had issues with my machine and was running out of time for the challenge, so here it is for now. I'll post it in the Project Share section when it's finished.
Â
Update, I had a little time to paint today."
